Accessibility at Canatara Beach
By City Staff
The City of Sarnia is preparing for a busy summer beach season and Canada 150 celebrations by making Canatara Beach more accessible. New beach matting and a second beach wheel chair donated by Lilith Boutique have been added.
The beach matting provides a portable walkway and allows pedestrians, wheel chairs, mobility scooters, strollers and walkers to access beautiful Canatara beach. The matting is located near the accessible washroom at the life guard office.
Furthermore, two beach wheel chairs can be signed out at the life guard office. These wheelchairs have large wheels that allow mobility across the sand and helps individuals with mobility disabilities have access to the water’s edge.
These initiatives were spearheaded by the Sarnia Accessibility Advisory Committee (SAAC) and assist with Canatara Beach’s Blue Flag designation.
Canatara beach will officially open with life guards on duty on Saturday, June 24, through until Sunday, August 27, 2017, seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
Lifejackets are also available for use at Canatara Beach, free of charge. Please visit the lifeguard office for proper sizing and sign out during regular guarded hours.
