Colborne Road Watermain Break Update

By City Staff

At 3am August 10, 2018 a broken watermain was reported to Public Works on-call staff. A crew was assembled to reduce the flow of water to a manageable rate, clear the drainage system and coordinate a crew, material and equipment for the repair.

The flow from this 500mm (20”) watermain was reduced to a rate that the drainage system can accommodate but the main break did cause flooding to some residential units and vehicles. Crews are on site to excavate and repair the watermain and to clear the road and drains from sand and granular material as a result from this main break. Crews will be working into the evening to complete the watermain repair, clear the road and complete temporary road repairs. Once this work is completed the road will be opened and permanent repairs will be scheduled once the saturated area dries and settlement possibility dissipate.

The 500mm cast iron watermain is a transmission watermain therefore no homes or building are serviced by this main and water supply to homes and buildings have not been effected.
