Lead Reduction

In 2017, CH2M HILL Canada Limited (now Jacobs Engineering Group) was awarded the contract to prepare a Lead Reduction Plan for the City of Sarnia, to reduce the level of lead in drinking water. Like many municipalities in Ontario, the City of Sarnia was directed by the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) to prepare a Lead Reduction Plan, for compliance with O. Reg. 170/03, Schedule 15.1.

The City of Sarnia’s Lead Reduction Plan was developed in close consultation with City of Sarnia staff and representatives from the Lambton Area Water Supply System (LAWSS). The LAWSS is an important stakeholder in this process because they supply treated drinking water to the City of Sarnia, in addition to five other municipalities.

The summary of the recommended Lead Reduction Plan for the City of Sarnia explains the rationale behind the recommendations.
