Sarnia Summer Events Program and Guide

Sarnia Summer Event Guide 2017 Front Page2017 will be an exciting season filled with programs and activities geared to enrich the lives of our children, families, and older adults within our community. A variety of outstanding outdoor music concerts, unique art, food and cultural festivals and a diversity of recreation and entertainment activities will take place throughout the summer. In addition to the Summer Events Program, the Parks & Recreation Dept. is involved in organizing and promoting many other festivals and events along the waterfront, in our parks, and throughout the city.

Kids Funfest

Since 1996, The Parks and Recreation Department and the Kids Funfest Committee have been dedicated to this fun-tastic, one-day event for kids! Kids Funfest has built a reputation as one of the must-attend events in our community by delivering fun, FREE, and quality educational and interactive experiences for the whole family.  Inflatables, face painting, pony rides, animal shows, life-size board games, storytelling, and more, Kids Funfest is the spot to be!  This year will feature a Canada 150 Mosaic Mural workshop, and free roller skating in Clearwater Arena! Thanks to the generous support of our funding partners, friends, sponsors and community volunteers, admission has remained absolutely free.

Hobbyfest

This one-day festival has grown in its diversity each year.  Hobbyfest continues to give local groups and organizations the opportunity to increase their visibility in the community, show off and share their achievements, as well as recruit new members.  Hobbyfest is a fun, relaxing, educational event that allows the community to participate in hands-on, interactive demonstrations and displays.

Outdoor Movie Night

In cooperation with Youth Chat
(Community Health Action Team) and Lambton Public Health

Enjoy an evening together as a family!  In the outdoor grounds behind Clearwater Arena, entertainment, activities, crafts and games will begin at 6:00pm capped off by an Outdoor Children’s movie at dusk.  Bring a blanket and a lawn chair and enjoy the evening.

Children’s Art Workshop

In Cooperation with Sarnia Artist Workshop

The Children’s Art Workshop, held in cooperation with the Sarnia Artists’ Workshop, promotes healthy play and learning experiences for young children. Organized by the Parks & Recreation Department and located in Canatara Park, children enjoy a special themed day, working with paint, clay and other art materials to make a variety of different crafts alongside the artists from the Sarnia Artists' Workshop.
Bring a snack and wear appropriate clothing.

Where: The Animal Farm Picnic Shelter in Canatara Park

When: Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017

Time: 9:30am – 12:00pm children 5 -8 years
1:00pm – 3:30pm for children 8 – 11 years
Cost is $10.00 per session.

 

Geo-caching 101

In Cooperation with the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority we present Geocaching 101. Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunting game where players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS devices. Instructed by Sharon Nethercott, this session will introduce participants to the exciting world of Geocaching through a guided PowerPoint presentation, followed by hands-on activities.  *Max. 30 participants

Where: The Animal Farm Picnic Shelter in Canatara Park

When: Wednesday, July 5th, 2017

Time:  9:30am – 11:30am
Cost is $10.00 per person. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
